While textbooks are often integral for a doctoral-level course, increasing emphasis on primary sources is expected. In every doctoral-level course, students should find, read, and comment on peer-reviewed articles and synthesize their readings with their own ideas.

References used for research need to be peer reviewed/scholarly journals, which can be found by searching the Northcentral University Library databases. These journals typically have the following characteristics:

– Articles report on original research or experimentation.

Welcome to Planning Dissertation Research in Business! This is the final course in the BTM sequence. After you complete it, you will write your Comprehensive Examination (Comps). Once you successfully complete Comps, you will be a Doctoral Candidate and will formally begin the process of writing your Dissertation. Your first step will be to select a Chair and other Dissertation Committee members. Then you will write your Concept Paper, your Dissertation Proposal, do your research, and write and defend your Dissertation Manuscript.

This course embodies the French saying, “reculer pour mieux sauter”: stepping back in order to jump farther: taking everything you have learned and accomplished in your doctoral studies and: sharpening your skills, bringing your sources up to date, deepening your knowledge of your topic area, developing a plan to do your dissertation and strategies for self-care, and, finally, developing a draft of the Concept Paper that you will finalize in your first DIS course.

Assignment 1 Your Topic Area
This week you will focus on the topic area for your dissertation. Throughout the course, you will engage in activities to prepare you for the dissertation process, culminating in a draft concept paper.

Main Task: Introduce Your Topic
To collect your thoughts on your project, check your understanding of the dissertation process, orient your Instructor to your topic area, and begin a dialogue with your Instructor about defining a problem and developing a dissertation study, submit a paper (plus a reference list) in which you:
1.describe your topic area and your thoughts on possible problems in the area that would allow you to make a contribution to theory; and
2.identify areas in the Northcentral dissertation process you want to better understand and ask your Instructor questions about them.
The main point of this assignment is to bring your instructor up to date on your thinking about your project. Your instructor will give you feedback on whether your topic and problem ideas are “feasible, interesting, worthy, and relevant.”

Length: 1-2 pages not included title and reference pages

Your paper should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts that are presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Planning Dissertation Research in Business 1 Your Topic Area

<Add student comments here>***Hi Carmen, Your goal with this assignment is to share a topic of potential dissertation research interest to you, as well as ask any questions you might have regarding the dissertation process or product.
I want to be sure that you understand the distinction between the problem statement (why a given topic is important and why the research is needed) and the purpose statement ( the purpose is the what of your study – what you will do or look at). I think you had a few topics or study goals (closer to purpose) as part of your statement of the problem). You also discussed some aspects of the how or methodology on your 2nd page of the problem statement (e.g., grounded theory).
I would be careful about phrases such as ‘prove the facts.’ No single study or even a group of studies can definitely prove or disprove something per se. Every research study has some limitations associated with it. Also, all hypothesis testing is done within a stated margin of error.
I also didn’t see the ‘what’ of your study under your purpose statement subheading. For this assignment, you weren’t required to create a problem statement and purpose statement just yet. Instead, your goal was to share several potential topics of interest. This will set the stage for you to formulate related problem and purpose statements later on ?

The objective of this study is to summarize the topics, problems and designs from dissertation research planning for a business and technology research studies. Research material found in selected journals shall reflect numerous discussions on the problem with the theories and why a study may be needed. In addition, the primary goal is to examine research consistencies within the degree of studies that addresses business and technology theorems that focus on client’s responsibilities for providing communication services. Typically,” there is only one way to judge the quality of qualitative studies which is the same for any type of scientific inquiry: the criteria of reliability, internal and external validity and objectivity” (Md. Ali, A., & Yusof, H, 2011, p. 26).
The Problem Statement
The problem in the proposed study is to define peer reviewed qualitative research in addition to life experience to identify a problem that may be addressed as topics within a research methodology. Moreover, finding a selection of problem statement and narrow those down to a selective discussion for the dissertation requires in depth knowledge of the material that clearly identified the communication strategy of the study that will impact business population as demonstrated by the depiction of the target population.
Such as, the problem to be addressed focus on a study of examining the business practices impacting the performance of forensic accountants within business and technology. Or to observe critical study of business and technology management position as it relates to financial scandals, money laundering and corporate corruption practices. In addition, researchable data is also a requirement to prove the facts and can easily be done by introducing the need for qualitative data analysis (QDA) software to research new ways in which professionals in business technology forensic management accountants in the USA may save time and money to fight and find fraud efficiently and effectively.
Furthermore, creating a tool to make it easier for experts to document the problems may help forensic accountants preform faster audits and financial statement analysis to find and fight fraudulent activities. In addition reviewing a variety of research studies will ensure the proper approach will be selected. Often a mixed research studies in forensic education seems less risky for a qualitative study especially since mathematical and statistical approach to assessing external threats and severe losses. Professionals may also benefit from the knowledge a proven theory such as grounded theory analysis and categories the field of studies. Especially since the “grounded theory is chosen for collecting and analyzing the case study data, with the aim of generating a descriptive and explanatory theory of the adoption of Internet rooted in the experiences of Small to Medium-sized Enterprises” (Lawrence, & Tar, 2013, p.30).
The purpose Statement
Forensic accountants have a purpose in the accounting, banking and insurance industries to crack down fraud and identify breaches within the financial realm. The purpose statement establishes the reason for the forensic research and compares the facts to find a solution to the problems statement. There are several organizations that support using specialized accounting professionals since a number of their strategies is used to identify the weakness and security breaches of the industry. Also, those professionals are useful to select and address business and technology related research concerns and address the business practices of technology management, including forensic accounts who use investigation tools to create new QDA software to thwart of any attempt for corporations to hide fraudulent activities and create accurate financial records. Forensic accountants apply special skills to collect analyze and interpret financial data in audits including recommend theories to investigators to prevent and control fraud scandals.

Similarly, studies may focus on whatever the stakeholders would like them to focus on such as potential for new business and technology research to explain or expand on previous studies to offer credibility to the chosen hypotheses. “In reporting the research process, these papers have also made specific references to quality criteria such as validity, relevance and generalizability to varying degrees” (Ali, A., & Yusof, H, 2011, p. 39).
